English: The first longhairs noticed by the western cat fancies were cats called Angoras (named after the Turkish city Ankara), Persians, and Russian longhairs, whose histories are intertwined. These cats are now selectively bred and called the Turkish Angora, Persian cat, Siberian Forest Cat, and Norwegian Forest Cats. The cats were imported from Turkey, Persia (now Iran), Afghanistan, Russia, and Norway. The longhaired cats from different regions were often crossbred with each other (and other cats). Furthermore, the origin of the documented cats was not always known, or written down. Therefore this category combines all historical long-haired cats from Eurasian origin.
